Guadalaviar

(Albarracín Range - Teruel - Spain)


Guadalaviar is a small municipality from Teruel (Spain) with a population et more than 200 in habitants which is located in the Albarracín Range. It is more than 1.500 m above sea level and it is situated at the foot of the San Juan Hill. Guadalaviar is 75 km from Teruel. The Guadalaviar River has its source in this very village and flows through Teruel finally becoming the Turia River.

The source of the Tajo River is a few kilometres from this village, where it has been erected a monument to the source of the river. The pasture land surrouding the village is shared with other municipalities, Villar del Cobo and Griegos, where horses and occasionally some cows can pasture.

There are plenty of fountains and picnic areas within the municipal area. Also, there is a very interesting fauna and apart from small mammals and common birds, one can find deers, wild boars and many birds of preys.

Guadalaviar is the westernmost village of the Albarracín Range and it is located next to boundary of the province of Guadalajara and Cuenca. There fore, it is the ideal starting point for travelling around Cuenca and its surrounding mountain range, around the Upper Tagus, in Guadalajara, and around the Albarracín Range.
