* Some words:
Lonquimay is open from July to October. Although located in the rainy lake district, Lonquimay has a micro-climate.The weather is clear 75% of the ski season.
Experienced skiers will want to climb to the summit of the volcano. The best route is on a southeast ridge to the right of the main south-facing bowl. No special climbing equipment is needed for the ascent, but avalanche danger can be extreme after a winter storm. Expect to spend about four hours on the hike (the lift saves fifteen minutes of climbing). Start in the morning and enjoy a full descent to the refugio to order their excellent hot lunch. This excursion covers about 1,400 vertical meters and is recommended as one of the best in South America.
